Update: January 2021
The final Affilate Agreement is complete, and will take effect: June 1, 2021. Prior to June, at the IMGMA Spring Conference a special meeting of the members will be called to approve the Bylaws changes that are necessary to comply with the new Affiliate Agreement.
August 2019
MGMA hosts monthly "town hall" conference calls for the State Leadership to ask questions and offer comments about the drafted changes to the Affiliate Agreement. Iowa MGMA leadership has been attending these calls throughout the summer months. In addition, Darcy Fahrenkrug - IMGMA President Elect, represents Iowa/Midwest States on a monthly Workgroup to identify questions and work through the process of proposed updates.
MGMA Expects to release a draft of the new Affiliate Agreement in January 2020, for an effective date of January 1, 2021. This will give the states time to update bylaws as needed and implement any benefits that may not already be in place.
June 2019
In September of 2018, MGMA proposed significant changes to the State Affiliation Agreement. The pupose of this page is keep IMGMA members updated as the Board of Directors, Membership Committee, and Bylaws Committee evaluate these changes.
From the IMGMA Bylaws:
ARTICLE I - NAME - The name of this organization shall be “Iowa Medical Group Management Association” (IMGMA). Iowa MGMA is affiliated with the National MGMA.
From the State Affiliation Agreement:
MGMA-ACMPE, dba Medical Group Management Association (“MGMA”) is a Colorado non-profit corporation and is the premier membership association for professional administrators and leaders of medical group practices. MGMA’s mission is to elevate the performance of medical practice leaders and their organization s by connecting members, building partnerships, setting standards for certification, advocating and improving systems that complement the delivery of affordable, quality patient care. MGMA is defined by administratorphysician leadership, driven by data, devoted to professional development and dedicated to advocacy for better healthcare policy. MGMA and its diverse state [and local] affiliates blend together in collaboration and to form a mutually dependent and mutually beneficial force aligned with achievement of the MGMA mission. The purpose of this Agreement is to define the rights, duties and benefits of MGMA and its affiliates and their respective roles as they unite in pursuit of the mission.

Current Iowa MGMA Categories
ACTIVE MEMBER: Any member who is employed by an entity providing or facilitating the provision of, health care delivery in a medical practice. The individual must be employed by a medical practice with at least one full time licensed physician.
An active member is entitle to vote, hold office, or serve on any committee.
STUDENT: The student member is an individual who is actively working on a degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or related field or is post-graduation by no more than twelve (12) months. The student must not qualify in any other category of membership.
A student member cannot vote, hold an office, or be chair of a committee or subcommittee, but may serve on committees.
AFFILIATE: An affiliate member is an individual who does not qualify as an active or allied member but who supplies products or services to IMGMA members.
An affiliate member cannot vote, hold an office or be committee or subcommittee chairs, but may serve on committees.

Aligned MGMA Membership Categories
ACTIVE OR REGULAR MEMBER:
- An individual who is directly employed in management, or administrative support services by an entity formally organized to provide or facilitate the provision of healthcare services.
- An individual employed by a management organization, hopsital/hospital system, practice management firm or other business entity responsible for managing any operational component(s) of an entity providing healthcare services. This includes consultants who are responsible for operations of one or more practices on an ongoing basis.
- Healthcare providers/clinicians who hold an active license in the state are also considered active members.
STUDENT:
An individual who is pursuing a healthcare or business-related degree at an accredited institution of higher learning and does not qualify for any other member category.
OPTIONAL MEMBER CATEGORIES AT DISCRETION OF STATE:
AFFILIATE - Organizations or individuals that provide products or services the healthcare delivery organizations or serve in a vending or consulting role who do not qualify under the definition of active membership.
